My sesame crackers are easy to make and super crispy. Serve them with dips, with cheese and charcuterie or enjoy them all on their own. Only 5 ingredients!
I used to buy crackers at my local bakery, which cost me a small fortune. But now I have discovered how easy it is to make them at home!
With only 5 minutes of prep time, these crunchy sesame seed crackers are my new favorite snack secret. In fact, I have also tested them for breakfast (with butter and sugar free jam) and served them with dinner (alongside soups and salads).
They are a real all-rounder! Light, crisp and utterly delicious.

What's To Love About This Recipe
Gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan - My sesame cracker recipe does not contain any flour. It's seeds all the way!
Low in carbs - With only 0.9g net carbs per cracker, the recipe is naturally keto.
Versatile - Once you have tried the basic recipe, I have tons of ideas for flavor variations in the post!
Ingredients
- Sesame seeds - I use both white sesame and black sesame seeds. The black sesame seeds add incredible flavor. They taste richer and nuttier than regular sesame.
- Ground flaxseed - Flaxmeal helps to bind the seeds and makes the crackers extra crispy. You can also use ground chia seeds.
- Water - Makes the seeds sticky and helps to create a dough. Evaporates during baking.
- Olive oil - Adds flavor. I like using a fruity extra virgin olive oil.
- Seasonings - Salt and pepper. You can omit the pepper if you prefer, but the salt (in my opinion) is non-negotiable.

Instructions
Making crackers with sesame seeds is simple. Here are the basic steps. Scroll down to the recipe card for ingredient amounts, the detailed method and nutrition information.
STEP 1
Combine all ingredients in a large mixing bowl with a spatula. Leave to rest so the mixture can thicken.
STEP 2
Spread the mixture into a tray lined with parchment paper.
STEP 3
Pre-cut the cracker dough into squares with a knife or pizza cutter. Or, cut them into triangles like these keto tortilla chips.
STEP 4
Bake in the preheated oven until lightly browned, crisp and all water has evaporated. Once cooled, separate into crackers.
Katrin's Top Tips
#1 The oven time will depend on how thick or thin you have spread out the dough. Thicker crackers may need 5 - 10 minutes more.
#2 The crackers on the outer edges of the tray may brown and crisp up quicker than the ones in the middle. You can place aluminium foil over the golden crackers to prevent over-browning. Or, remove the ones that are done and continue baking the remaining ones.
Add-Ins
My recipe is the basic version. Feel free to add herbs and spices to the crackers and tweak their flavor. Use ยฝ - 1 teaspoon of each:
- Garlic powder
- Onion powder
- Paprika
- Nutritional yeast
- Cumin
- Zataar
- Everything Bagel Seasoning
- Italian herbs (rosemary, thyme, oregano)
Another idea would be to make sweet crackers - I want to try this next. For this, I would use only white sesame and replace some of the water with sugar-free fiber syrup. Of course, I'd also omit the pepper, salt and olive oil.
Recipe FAQs
Yes, but the water ratio will change. Try my keto seed cracker recipe for a cracker that also contains pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds. I also have a great chia seed cracker and a flaxseed cracker recipe.
Yes, you can replace the black sesame seeds with more white sesame.
For thin crackers, I recommend that you roll out the dough between 2 sheets of parchment paper. Remove the top parchment and transfer the bottom parchment paper with the dough onto a baking sheet. Then, proceed with the recipe. Thin crackers may bake quicker, so keep an eye on them.
If you would like neat edges, it is essential to pre-cut the dough. Of course, you can also break the crackers into different sized pieces after baking.
Serving Suggestion
1. Enjoy the crackers with a dip such as my avocado spread, keto hummus or baba ganoush (pictured above).
2. They are lovely as part of a sharing platter or cheese board when you're having a crowd over.
3. I often eat them like a mini sandwich. Think ham and cheese, cream cheese and smoked salmon or peanut butter and sugar free raspberry jam!
4. Sesame seed crackers even work in place of a dinner roll. Pair them with my keto tuna salad or this keto chicken salad. Or, spread them with butter and serve alongside a low carb soup.
Storage
Once the sesame crackers are cooled completely, store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 weeks.
They probably last even longer than that. But, the batches I make always go quickly.

Ingredients
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 150C / 300F (electric).
- Combine all ingredients in a bowl. Mix well and leave to rest for 20 minutes so the mixture can thicken.
- Place parchment paper into a baking tray and flatten the mixture with a spatula. ย This will give you neat edges. My mix covered a 13 x 9-inch baking tray.
- Carefully pre-cut into squares using a pizza cutter or a knife. Don't miss this step or the crackers will break if you try and cut them later.
- Bake for 45 - 50 minutes or until all water has evaporated and the crackers are lightly browned and crisp. The oven time will depend on how thick or thin you have rolled out the dough. Thicker crackers may need 5 - 10 minutes more.
- Let the crackers cool completely before separating and storing (or eating) them.

Looks great. Will try!

Hi, your recipe looks really good! But if I want to use chia seeds instead of flaxmeal, how much should I use? Also, any idea of how much garlic/onion powder would be appropriate?
Katrin Nรผrnberger
Hello Shy, I would use ground chia seeds, and about the same amount. As for the garlic and onion powder, that's a personal preference. I would sprinkle it over like you would salt.
Sophia
These crackers are absolutely delicious!! I rolled out the dough between two sheets of parchment paper to make them nice and thin. They were very crispy, just how I like them.
