It takes just 5 minutes to make these 2 ingredient feta eggs! It's an egg fried atop crumbled feta, which melts into a golden, crispy crust.
Every once in a while, a new idea pops out of nowhere and takes the world by storm. And that is exactly what happened with feta cheese eggs.
Ever since the recipe creator Grace Elkus posted a reel on how to level up your morning egg by frying it in a pan with a base of melted feta cheese, everyone on social media has tried it out.
And holey-moley, it is good.
The crumbled feta in the bottom of the pan turns golden and crispy, creating a halo of salty, tangy, cheesy goodness. In the center of this salty perfection sits your perfectly fried egg with fully set whites and a soft yolk.

What's To Love About This Recipe
A new taste experience! I love that it takes just 2 ingredients and combining them in a new way to create a new taste experience. I had no idea that feta melts into a deliciously salty and crispy golden cheese crust just like the cheddar in my keto cheese chips.
Healthy! Both eggs and feta are high in protein. A high protein diet has science-backed health benefits. Serve it with avocado and lettuce on a low carb tortilla to add healthy fats and fibre.
Easy and quick! This is a simple, naturally low carb breakfast recipe that you can put together in 5 minutes.
Ingredients
Here are the ingredients you'll need for a feta fried egg:
- Feta cheese - Choose a barrel-aged feta cheese or any quality feta. Greek or Mediterranean delis sell the tastiest varieties. I prefer buying a block of feta and crumble it myself rather than buying crumbled feta. Freshness always wins.
- Eggs - If possible, go for organic or free range eggs. You can always taste the difference. I like Clarence Court eggs.
We also need olive oil for frying.

Instructions
Let's make the viral TikTok feta fried eggs!
Here are the basic steps. Scroll down to the recipe card for more details and nutrition information.
STEP 1
Heat olive oil in a small frying pan over medium heat. Crumble the feta into the pan in a circle.
STEP 2
Crack an egg into the center of the feta circle. Fry until the egg white has set and the feta has melted into a crispy golden crust.
Katrin's Top Tips
#1 Use a good quality non-stick pan. Both feta and fried eggs stick to a stainless steel pan and you'll end up with a scrambly mess.
#2 Grease or spray the frying pan generously with olive oil. This is non-negotiable - for the same reason as above.
#3 Patience! There is no point in trying to speed up the process. Take your time, watch that egg and always adjust the heat down if needed. You want the feta golden brown and not burnt.
Serving Suggestion
This is my favorite section - how to serve your gorgeously crispy feta fried egg! Here is how I prepped the fried egg for this post:
STEP 3
Spread a tortilla with cream cheese. I used one of my coconut flour tortillas.
STEP 4
Add avocado slices.
STEP 5
Add a handful of lettuce leaves.
STEP 6
Now, put the fried egg on top of the tortilla and finish with a sprinkle of nigella seeds and chopped chives.
Serving Variations
- Base: Low carb tortillas help you eat this deliciousness without fork and knife or runny egg yolk on your hands. Prefer bread? Toast a slice of low carb bread or make my keto 90 second bread if you're short on time.
- Base Spread: The original TikTok feta cheese egg is served on smashed avocado (yum). I can also recommend my 4 ingredient guacamole, whipped cottage cheese and - my secret tip - keto hummus.
- Vegetables: Rocket salad, cucumber slices or cherry tomatoes. Another idea is to sautรฉ spinach or mushrooms in a separate pan and serve warm, on top of the tortilla.
Last but not least, we have the egg toppings. Anything from simple to fancy works! Here is a list of ideas:
- Smoked paprika
- Chili flakes or cayenne pepper
- Dukkah
- Pickled red onions
- Chopped parsley or oregano
- Garlic or chili oil
- Green pesto
- Sundried tomatoes or sliced cherry tomatoes
Recipe FAQs
Yes! Crumbling feta cheese into scrambled eggs also tastes delicious. It creates delicious pockets of melted cheese.
Of course! Try the recipe with shredded cheddar cheese or grated parmesan. Both are salty cheeses just like feta. You could also use shredded mozzarella.
It does! I have tried the recipe with Violife dairy-free feta cheese and it was equally delicious. This is a coconut-based feta alternative.
You can make feta eggs in the oven, but it's going to be a feta egg scramble and not fried eggs. Whisk the eggs and then crumble a block of feta into the mixture. Bake in a casserole dish until the cheese has melted and the egg is set.
Storage
Feta fried eggs is a dish that should be eaten straight away. It's not that it is unsafe to store - it would totally stay fresh in the fridge for 2-3 days.
But, once the egg is cold it's just not going to taste that great. And if you reheated it, the yolk will set.
My recommendation is to simply make one feta egg at a time, as and when you are hungry!
Feta Cheese 101
Did you know that feta is one of the oldest cheeses in the world? It is Greece's national cheese and it was even mentioned in Homer's Odyssey.
It is traditionally made from goats and sheeps milk. This means it is easier to digest than cheese from cow's milk.
Feta has a slightly sour taste and it is very salty. That's why I only add a sprinkle of sea salt right on top of the egg yolk right before serving.
