My keto peppermint patties have a creamy minty filling and a crisp chocolate coating. You only need 5 ingredients to make this easy sugar free treat!
I am always on a mission to re-create sugar free versions of my favourite sweet treats. And these sugar free peppermint patties are for all of you who miss York peppermint patties or, in fact, After Eights.
Yorks and After Eights are based on the same idea: A creamy mint filling encased in chocolate. The main difference is that the former is round and the latter square and thin.
To keep the recipe simple, I went for a round peppermint patty shape - but you'll find instructions how to make sugar free after eights in the post, too.
I had to hide these from my husband because they are so delicious!

What's To Love About This Recipe
Refreshing and satisfying. This is a wonderful after-dinner treat. The combination of chocolate, creaminess and a refreshing mint taste is rather irresistible. I love that the peppermint filling has just the right amount of sweetness - it's not sickly sweet like the original.
Also, nobody can complain about the cooling aftertaste of erythritol because anything peppermint is SUPPOSED to taste cooling!
Easy recipe. This is a no bake treat and you only need 5 ingredients in total. I was a lot of fun to put it together - I am sure you'll enjoy it, too.
Great edible gift. Keto peppermint patties are so pretty! During the Christmas season, they make a lovely edible gift. You can decorate them with sugar free candy in festive colours.
100% keto friendly. One patty contains only 1g of net carbs.
Ingredients
Here are the ingredients you'll need:
- Butter - Unsalted and very soft. I recommend to take the butter out of the fridge the night before.
- Sweetener - Must be powdered. I used an erythritol monk fruit blend.
- Peppermint Extract - I bought peppermint oil via Amazon. It's going to last me years, but the taste is beautiful.
- Mascarpone - This is an Italian soft cheese. It is higher in fat than regular cream cheese. Take it out of the fridge at least 1 hour before using.
- Chocolate - I used Lindt 90% chocolate, which is very low in sugar. Alternatively, use sugar free chocolate of your choice.

Katrin's Top Tips
#1 Get the temperature right. It is absolutely essential that the butter is very soft and the mascarpone is at room temperature. This ensures that the filling mixture comes together easily and is nice and smooth.
#2 I recommend erythritol based sweeteners over any other sweetener in this recipe. I made a test with powdered Bocha Sweet and the mixture ended up too soft. With erythritol, the filling had the perfect texture and was easy to shape into patties.
Variations And Toppings
Keto After Eight Chocolates
To make sugar free After Eight chocolates, simply roll out the peppermint filling between two sheets of parchment paper and freeze until set, around 20 minutes. Don't freeze for too long or the filling may crack when you cut it.
Slice the filling into squares and proceed with the recipe!
Toppings
Peppermint patties taste and look beautiful without any toppings. However, here are keto friendly topping ideas:
- Sugar Free Sprinkles
- Crushed sugar free candy (choose green or red for a Christmas version)
- Freeze-dried raspberries
- Drizzle leftover melted chocolate over the tops
Recipe FAQs
To make dairy-free peppermint patties, swap the butter for coconut oil and use coconut cream instead of the mascarpone. I recommend to adjust the ingredient amounts and use ยฝ cup coconut oil and only 2-3 tablespoons of coconut cream. This way, you'll achieve a similar consistency that is easy to shape.
Of course! You can use any extract in the filling, for example as vanilla, orange, or almond. I have tested this in my sugar free Creme Eggs, where I used the same base filling mixture with vanilla extract (and food colouring).
Yes. The more sweetener you use, the firmer the filling will become. This does make it easier when shaping the patties. However, it also makes the patties sweeter.
Yes. If you want to use cream cheese instead of the mascarpone, I recommend that use โ cup butter and โ cup cream cheese.
Storage
Store keto peppermint patties in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
You can also freeze the patties for up to 3 months. My husband eats them straight from frozen, but most people may prefer to defrost them in the fridge so the filling can soften.
